The island of Kastellorizo now has a renovated and fully equipped pharmacy to serve and care for the health of all its residents. During this upgrade, the Pharmaceutical Association of the Dodecanese Board of Directors placed an honorary plaque at the entrance to the pharmacy in honor of Paul Giannacopoulos, founder of the leading pharmaceutical company VIANEX, acknowledging his great contribution to the Pharmaceutical Sector and to the Dodecanese.
The grand opening of the fully renovated and well-equipped pharmacy took place on Tuesday, July 20th, with a rather special event to mark the occasion. The island was visited by, Secretary General for Primary Health Care Ministry, Mr. Marios Themistokleous, the Regional Governor of the South Aegean, Mr. George Hatzimarkos, the Mayor of Megisti (Κastellorizo), Mr. George Samsakos, the President of the Dodecanese Pharmaceutical Association, Mr. Nikolaos Foutoulis, the President of the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association, Mr. Apostolos Valtas, and also Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, President of BoD and CEO of VIANEX Group.
The Pharmaceutical Association of the Dodecanese, which was the leading force in the renovation of the new pharmacy in Megisti (Κastellorizo), placed the plaque and named the pharmacy “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” in recognition of his long-standing contribution to the pharmaceutical sector and the Dodecanese islands near the country’s borders. With the welfare of our fellow citizens in mind, VIANEX has consistently contributed to the support of health institutions in the border area islands, ensuring the medical needs of the residents are met as fully as possible.
The support for the Pharmaceutical Association of the Dodecanese made it possible to purchase medical equipment for the needs of the residents of Kastellorizo. In a further effort, VIANEX supported the education of Health Professionals serving and working on the island, as well as their patients - caregivers, on issues of Health Prevention and Pharmaceutical Care. Last year, Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, President of BoD and CEO of VIANEX Group, responded immediately to a letter from the Mayor of Megisti (Κastellorizo), and arranged for the Multipurpose Regional Clinic of Megisti to be significantly upgraded by providing medical equipment and sanitary material. More specifically, VIANEX provided a new electric generator, a TRIPLEX heart and dental X-ray machine and a laptop computer, as well as pharmaceutical supplies. In addition, the company also provided sanitary material (masks, antiseptics, alcohol) to ensure the clinic was better equipped to respond to the pandemic.
During his visit to the Κastellorizo pharmacy, Marios Themistokleous Secretary General of Primary Health Care said: “Protecting and caring for the health of inhabitants, especially those in the remote islands, is an immediate priority for the Ministry of Health. It was with great pleasure that I attended the grand opening of the new fully equipped pharmacy in Κastellorizo, since all the residents of the most remote island in Greece can now feel even safer. We are continuing to strengthen and shield our fellow citizens in every way possible, with their health and well-being in mind, always».
In a statement during the grand opening, Nikolaos Foutoulis, President of the Dodecanese Pharmaceutical Association said: “The border zone island Kastellorizo now has a fully equipped pharmacy which can meet the needs of its residents, offering greater security, convenience and accessibility. Acknowledging the great support that the founder of VIANEX gave to remote areas of Greece, and also the company’s overall contribution to the pharmaceutical sector, the Board of Directors of our Pharmaceutical Association decided to place a plaque with the name “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” at the upgraded pharmacy to honor the founder of the company that continues to offer so much to our sector”.
Mr Dimitris Giannakopoulos, President of BoD and CEO of VIANEX Group, who travelled to Kastellorizo for the opening of the pharmacy, added: “And we are doubly pleased to be here at this time, having contributed to upgrading the health services provided in Kastellorizo for the islanders here who are deeply connected to their home and who keep it alive. Our wish is that citizens of our border areas, and the soldiers serving on the island, do not miss out on anything that is provided for citizens in the rest of the country. So that serious cases can be treated or diagnosed in time, without residents having to seek treatment on the mainland or elsewhere. So that they do not live with the worry and fear of falling ill. At the same time, we hope to make the work of health professionals and medical officers serving at the Megisti Multipurpose Regional Medical Center a little easier. It is our commitment at VIANEX to actively support Greek society, in every part of Greece, and protecting the health structures is a national priority”.
