Actively supporting society and our fellow citizens, VIANEX Group has made a major new donation to support the health of the inhabitants of Greek islands, and especially of islands in the outermost regions of Greece. In cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the 2nd Health Region of Piraeus and the Aegean, and after a request from Mr. Stamatis Vassiliadis, Governor of the “IPPOKRATEION” General Hospital - Health Center of Kos, the Group has offered a powerful oxygen generator which can refill bottles (oxygen compressor). The new generator will significantly upgrade the health services at Kos hospital, enabling it to safely meet the needs of its clinics, as well as of the Covid-19 wing which was created due to the pandemic.
The official inauguration event for the new generator took place on Thursday, March 3 at the Health Center of Kos, in the presence of the Minister of Health Mr. Thanos Plevris, as well as the President and CEO of VIANEX Group, Mr. Dimitris P. Giannakopoulos. The Governor of Kos Hospital, Mr. Stamatis Vassiliadis, gave to the honorary guests a short tour of the Hospital and the area where the new generator was installed, and informed representatives of the State and local government and society about the installation of the generator.
The inauguration event was attended, among others, by the Deputy Minister of Health Mrs. Mina Gaga, the Governor of the 2nd Health Region of Piraeus and the Aegean Mr. Christos Roilos, the MP for the Dodecanese Mrs. Mika Iatridou, the MP for the Dodecanese Mr. Ioannis Pappas, the MP for the Dodecanese Mr. Vassilios Ypsilantis, the MP for the Dodecanese Mr. Manos Konsolas, the Director of the Deputy Minister's Office Mrs. Lilian Vildiridi, the Prefect of Kos-Nisyros Mr. Ioannis Kampanis and the Mayor of Kos Mr. Theodosis Nikitaras. In addition, the event was attended by the President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Kos Mr. Stavros Axarlis, the Vice-President of the Panhellenic Medical Association Mr. Konstantinos Koutsopoulos, the Director of Rhodes Hospital Mr. Grigoris Roumanis, and many other representatives of local government and society.
The Minister of Health, Mr. Thanos Plevris said during his visit: “The ‘IPPOKRATEIO’ General Hospital of Kos was significantly upgraded thanks to the new generator that will now allow patients to be hospitalization and to recieve oxygen both in the COVID wing and the rest of the hospital. This is an important move, since the Kos Hospital is a central hospital for the wider region and also serves smaller municipalities. Our main concern is to provide a shield for society and our fellow citizens on health issues and in this context we support and strengthen any initiative aimed at the wellbeing of the wider society. We are very grateful for the private initiative that supports public hospitals.”
The President and CEO of VIANEX Group, Mr. Dimitris P. Giannakopoulos, said in relation to VIANEX Group’s donation to the Kos hospital: “Kos is one of the islands that showcases Greece abroad, tourists have always loved this place, and its permanent residents who keep the island alive in the winter are now joined by young people, Greeks and foreigners, who choose Kos for permanent residence. Therefore, we could not remain indifferent to the request from the Governor of the General Hospital of Kos, and that is why we took immediate steps to provide the hospital with an oxygen production generator as soon as was possible. We are proud that we have managed to make VIANEX, the largest Greek pharmaceutical company, synonymous with trust and care for people. Of course, we owe this to my father and the founder of VIANEX, Pavlos Giannakopoulos, and our goal is to keep alive his spirit of giving to society. And we are particularly sensitive to the Aegean islands. VIANEX makes an important contribution to Social Responsibility and in this context we place an emphasis on the needs of the outermost regions of Greece. We, as VIANEX, are here, by the State’s side, to help where we can because we have the same goal: that all Greek citizens have the medical care they deserve”.
The Governor of the “IPPOKRATEION” General Hospital - Health Center of Kos, Mr. Stamatis Vassiliadis, noted in relation to the VIANEX Group donation: “We were very happy to receive a positive response from VIANEX to our request for a new oxygen supply generator. The “IPPOKRATEIO” General Hospital of Kos offers its services not only to the residents of Kos, but also to residents of many other neighboring islands. The need to upgrade our capabilities was imperative and the immediate mobilization of VIANEX and its Chairman, Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, fills us with gratitude and strength to continue our work with dedication and respect for our patients and our science”.
The Mayor of Kos Mr. Theodosis Nikitaras also noted: “For those of us who live in outlying areas of Greece, we experience the anxiety felt by our fellow citizens every day, and this is most pronounced when it comes to health issues. There is a lot to be done, but I would say that I am leaving today more optimistic about thanks to your actions and I am very happy, Mr. Giannakopoulos, as I see that you are personally connected to these issues. I believe that the State is under an obligation to assist you, the Greek companies that fought to continue during the crisis, so that they can become sustainable and competitive and spread their wings further in the future”.
The “IPPOKRATEION” General Hospital - Health Center of Kos has an oxygen generator, but it has a smaller capacity. At a time when the pandemic continues to threaten the health of citizens and burden the national health system, the needs for oxygen supplies for hospitalized patients remain particularly high, and as a result the existing generator is not sufficient to cover them. In addition, the transportation of oxygen cylinders to the more distant islands, such as Kos, is slowed down by weather conditions especially in the winter months. The new generator that the General Hospital of Kos has now acquired will cover this urgent need so that the inhabitants of the island can receive the appropriate hospital care should they need to be hospitalized.
